HIGHER GROUND is a softball instruction organization, founded in 1989, that provides top-quality services and products for coaches, players, and parents. Our mission is to do everything possible toward Helping YOU Get Better Every Day.

To achieve our goal of helping you to improve and enjoy the game more, we produce softball videos and DVDs, publish softball books, conduct softball camps and clinics and provide the best of softball training equipment and general softball equipment, and souvenirs and incentives.

We have produced forty softball videos and softball DVD’s, with instruction provided by many of the best coaches in the world. We only use people that know how to explain skills and drills so that you can easily understand and apply the principles being taught. Among our video instructors are:

In recent years, we have sponsored or provided instruction at softball clinics in many parts of the United States, Canada, Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and South America. We are involved in major softball clinics sponsored by other organizations, sponsor Higher Ground softball clinics, and regularly schedule customized clinics for teams, leagues, associations, or other groups that contract with us to provide instruction. In 2001, we were chosen to assist the ISF and the Hellenic Softball Federation in the selection and training of the inaugural Greek National Team, the first step in developing the host team for the 2004 Olympics. Founder Bobby Simpson also served as Head Coach of the British National Team (2001-2004), in addition to being an assistant for the Dutch and Greek National Teams.

Our summer softball camps have been conducted in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Ohio, and South Carolina. The formats may involve day camps or overnight camps for individuals or teams, covering overall skills or specialty items such as hitting, pitching/catching, or defensive positions. The annual SUPER & SELECT Camp for Advanced and Elite Skills has attracted players and staff from over 30 states, plus Australia, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Italy, New Zealand, and Zambia. Our 1996 camp in Albany, Georgia, allowed 300 players and staff from 15 states, Canada, Holland, and Australia a chance to see Olympic softball as part of the camp schedule.

Instructors for our softball camps include many top professional, college, high school, and amateur team coaches from across the United States. In addition, we often use some of the best from top foreign softball countries, including national team and/or champion coaches. Our camps are designed to teach the serious softball player how to get better by maximizing mental, visual and physical resources to improve daily. We use the top people in the game, plus leading instructors from outside fields such as business, music, nutrition, vision, or military training. We utilize the traditional methods, but add innovative and interesting concepts and content for teaching so that learning is easier, more fun, and more effectively used in games.

As a part of our efforts to provide first class instruction for girls softball, we are able to provide top of the line softball training equipment such as pitching machines, batting cages, toss machines, tees, screens, bats and balls, and elite visual training from Vizual Edge. We represent industry leaders and constantly search for new products that really work and are reasonably priced.

Service from Higher Ground is geared to getting you what you need, when you need it, and getting it to you at a fair price. We do our very best to customize our products and services to be just right for YOU. Our softball videos and DVD’s cover a very broad list of topics, our softball clinics and softball camps are custom designed rather than a package item, and the products we sell are designed to meet individual needs. We make every effort to be flexible and see each customer encounter as unique and special.

It is our goal to follow the principles of the hymn, Higher Ground, from which we derived our business name. Written in 1892 by Johnson Oatman, Jr. it reflects our purpose:

Such organizations as the International Softball Federation, International Sports Group, and the United States Air Force have used our services and our summer camps were featured in Sports Illustrated For Women.
